Just received my excellent Permajet Print courtesy of The Imaging Warehouse, after being chosen for the Amateur Photographer Picture of the Week (#APPicoftheweek) recently, so Lynn took a shot of a happy photographer…

As I’ve written before, a lot of my shots are taken on the way to or from somewhere, or when just out for a wander, rather than specifically planned. The benefits of living in a city, particularly one like Edinburgh, are endless things going on that can catch my eye, ideally with some good like to go with them.

In the case of these shots, it was this fine gent, Dave, in his hat and coat, ready for whatever weather we were about to experience during the course of the unfolding day. He was good enough to consent to a couple of close portrait shots too, for which thanks.

A fresh selection for you from the last few days.

The famous Guildford Arms or just the Guildford to locals is a Victorian bar apparently run by the same family since 1896.  A favourite with nearby government workers and tourists alike.

Round the back, in the warren known as The Registers, it’s a bit grittier and shadier although about to be redeveloped; it’s worth poking about now before the gentrification starts.  The team which developed Advocate’s Court have plans which should see the 2 heritage buildings preserved but photographers may worry about the potential loss of the photogenic dark lanes and mueses.

Back to a favourite haunt; following Paul’s empty and starker early morning photo of Fleshmarket Close shot a couple of years ago, here is a shot with people going about their lunchtime business giving it a different narrative.

At the back of the old Scotsman newspaper building, runners would be kept fit taking messages up and down these steps.  Now a prestigious hotel, the old pigeon lofts which apparently housed birds to spread the news across Scotland is a penthouse suite.

We like to think atmospheric rather than seedy – again, an area under significant development with the 7.5 acre Waverley project just up the road.  Interestingly, the current and previous developers have contributed to a fund for community projects to brighten up the site and the surroundings – not sure this was what they had in mind.

Mexican Stand Off-ish #Edinburgh #Photo #Grassmarket #BW www.henni.photo .@LynnHenni

Post by Paul and Lynn  Henni.

There three shooters, but no shots were fired, she got me’n’him, I got him, he got someone else. A Mexican stand-off in the Grassmarket and then we all went home for dinner. It’s how it should be.
