Around The City – Oslo

We spent 3 days in an incredibly hot Oslo recently.  As you can see from this shot, the sun was strong and created good shadows.

Both of us were captivated by the Royal Opera House opened in 2008.  It has lots of sloping areas for sun-worshipers to spread themselves across and is of course, ideal for urban snappers.

The lines and angles drew us both and we took many, many shots.

We took full advantage of the glass which provided some interesting reflections.

I like the half shadow across Gro on this one.

Just outside the stylish Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, located in Aker Brygge and designed by Enzo Piano, we found this sculpture surrounded by lines and shadows.

We didn’t find out why there were various South American music and dance groups parading round but we enjoyed the lively sounds – and colours!

In An Oslo Garden

This is a bit of a change from our normal work.  We were staying with Paul’s cousin Gro who has a beautiful garden in Oslo – and the sun shone the whole time.  So, we had an excellent opportunity to experiment with some macro  photography.  Oh, and we have included some colour…

Close-up of a member of the onion family – allium.

I think this is actually a weed but I loved the structure and the colour.

Again, not sure what this bee is sipping his nectar from but it was an apian favourite.

Normal black and white service is resumed – this is the blue weed again, also a favourite with bees.

Similarly, we could name this, the common dandelion.

Swan Rescue #SSPCA #Blackford #Pond #Cygnet #Edinburgh .@ScottishSPCA www.henni.photo

Post by Paul Henni

Another lunchtime stroll around the Blackford Pond and came across these women from the SSPCA rescuing a young male adult swan who hadn’t ‘flown the nest’ and, sadly, was being harassed by his parent to do so. This had left him in a poor state, so he was being rescued for re-location to the SSPCA Centre in Alloa for feeding up and future release.

A lunchtime stroll around the Blackford Pond and the unusual sight of a family of Cormorants, presumably sheltering from the harsh sea conditions. Updated today with a few more shots. They look like Pterodacyls, positively pre-historic critters.
