So, another Edinburgh Christmas and New Year festival is over. This one was mostly mild, but thankfully for photographers across the city, we had some rain to reflect the Christmas lights. Not sure the tourists felt the same as they visited the German market…
I took this photo as it’s an unusual to see the benches here and I liked the slightly higgledy line they follow. To accommodate the Christmas stalls, the benches normally set along the northern paths of Princes St Gardens East are moved to the southern side where there’s not very much to see but many locals probably like the relative tranquillity of this spot in a city so full of merry-making.
But sitting around in December can be pretty chilling so the hot chocolate, coffee and mulled wine sellers do a good trade. Is that a wistful look at somebody else’s burger maybe?
There have been many shots of the big wheel – I quite liked the idea of just a section of it as a backdrop to the ‘party animals’ coming to and going from the market. And now, all that’s left behind is the mud…and the photos; there are always the photos.
